To the Members of the Michael School

Dear Friends,

We – the Collegium of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum – would like to warmly invite you to an international gathering of members of the School of Spiritual Science at Michaelmas 2012 at the Goetheanum.
It will be held from
4:30pm Wednesday, September 26,
to 6:30pm Saturday, September 29, 2012

We would like to look at the ways of working with the First Class that we have developed up to now, augmented and supported by Johannes Kirsch and Peter Selg, whose publications on this topic many of you are undoubtedly aware of. We also want to focus on the question of where we currently stand in our anthroposophic work and discuss how we can provide impulses for the further development of the cultural mission of the Michael School in the coming years.

During the Christmas Conference Rudolf Steiner made a sketch of the structure of the School of Spiritual Science in which he inscribed the Sections with their professional fields as vertical lines enmeshed with the horizontal lines of the three Classes of the School of Spiritual Science and the General Anthroposophical Society.1 What self-concept and tasks are illustrated by this? How far has the development of the School progressed today with regard to putting elements of a new sacred mystery culture into practise? What kind of qualities of work are we dealing with? And when we consider the few indications that Rudolf Steiner gave regarding the nature and tasks of the Second and Third Classes, how does the esoteric work of the Sections relate to this? What forms of community building are inherent in it and need to be developed? What forms of working are appropriate for a group of people who want to align themselves directly with the spiritual world, as is the case with Members of the Michael School? And how is this affected by the fact that our esoteric material has been published?

We at the Goetheanum are very concerned with these and other questions – and we would like to ponder them with you. We would also like to discuss with you how we want to celebrate the coming 100th anniversary of the laying of the Goetheanum’s foundation stone (September 20th, 2013), as from the beginning our centre was called “Goetheanum, School of Spiritual Science”. We welcome any suggestions you might have for that occasion, as well as for our Michaelmas gathering in September 2012.

With warm greetings and good wishes for the Christmas Season –
On behalf of the Collegium of the School of Spiritual Science –
Michaela Glöckler
