Position offered: Live-in part time Waldorf-trained child care
We are a loving family of two children (3 and 7) and are looking for a part-time live-in child care. This position would be ideal for someone just finishing up with teacher training, looking to move to Boulder who loves rural life and is planning on a career in teaching or working with kids. The position is also open to individuals who do not have Waldorf experience but who have early childhood education experience of a contemplative nature.
We live on 5 acres in the country, 4 miles from downtown Boulder with a couple of horses and a couple of dogs and room for gardening. Both girls go to school – one to a Waldorf pre-school and the other to a public charter school. We value arts and music and having our kids play outside. Where possible we choose organic food and are not vegetarian.
The right candidate should be loving, have experience with Waldorf education and have worked with preschool and elementary kids. The candidate will have experience establishing rhythm in a child’s life, enjoy guiding their play indoors and out and promote positive play between the two sisters.
Duties include:
• Drop-off at school several days a week
• Pick –up at school several days a week
• After-school care at home several afternoons including cooking kid’s dinner and helping with homework
• Helping the kids keep their rooms and their play area clean
• Kid’s laundry
• Weekends will mostly be free
Hours:
To be determined but most likely:
• 7 to 9 am most weekdays
• 3:30 to 5:00 pm most weekdays
• 3:30 to 9:00 pm one evening a week
• Total approximately 25 hours per week
Must have:
• Valid license and car
Housing: Our house has a private room and bathroom in the house. There is internet but no cable. There is plenty of room outside if you want to plant a vegetable garden – we had a nice one last year. We are hoping that the candidate will choose to engage with the family (ie. have occasional meals together etc.) but there is no obligation to do so.
Compensation: We are offering room and board in exchange for 12 hours of childcare a week. The remaining hours, approximately 13 hours per week, will be compensated at $12 per hour. There will be opportunities for more child care if the person wants to work additional hours.
References will be requested and can also be offered for this family.

Kindergarten Teacher/Owner
2/16/2010 11:30AM
Wanted August 2010!
Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher/Owner
Briar Rose Children’s Center is a full-day, year-round preschool for children ages 3-6. We want to transfer ownership of Briar Rose to a certified Waldorf Teacher!
Our mission is to provide care and education to preschool children and their families. Our program is open from 8:00 – 4:30, with part-time options available. We provide a home away from home for children and give them the education they need to be strong, caring individuals within a healthy group.
The Waldorf trained lead teacher/owner we are seeking will be able to sustain a balanced Waldorf early childhood experience for twenty 3-6 year old children, train assistants, interact positively and openly with parents, and be a center of peace and strength for the children. It is important that the owner be a knowledgeable and experienced business person as well as a trained Waldorf teacher.
Briar Rose Children’s Center was started in 1999 by Waldorf Education Columbus, a non-profit organization with the plan to start a Waldorf grade school and several other preschools in Columbus. In 2005, Rebecah Freeling became the owner of Briar Rose, which is now an LLC. She is currently looking for the next owner, who will guide Briar Rose Children’s Center into its next decade. There will be no acquisition costs for ownership. We are choosing not to ‘sell’ the school because we believe that the school’s owner is more accurately characterized as a steward of the impulse which lives in the business and in the community. The transfer of ownership will be done with a teacher who can become this kind of steward.
Rebecah hopes to remain as needed as a part-time administrator of Briar Rose to help make the transition a smooth one. She will continue to work with Waldorf Education Columbus as a promoter of Waldorf early childhood education in Columbus. Briar Rose Children’s Center and Waldorf Education Columbus have a mutually supportive relationship. We are also connected to Waldorf communities in both Cincinnati and Akron, Ohio. There is currently no elementary school in Columbus, and we work within a supportive Anthroposophical circle. Briar Rose has developed relationships with other local child care centers and has a good reputation in Columbus.
Briar Rose Children’s Center is a great environment to work in! There are three teachers: one lead teacher (that’s you!) and two assistants. Teachers meet twice a month in the evening, to look together at the program and the children, make desired changes. and plan for birthdays, festivals and other events. We have 20 children, ages 3-6. There is a large open space inside for cooking. We have a full kitchen and a food service license. We make lunch with the children, and serve it family style. There are workbenches, a sewing area, rabbits and fish, a bathroom right off the classroom, a cubby area for the children’s belongings, a parent library and an office for administrative and planning work. We have a beautiful outdoor area which includes a garden, climbing trees, and (soon!) a cob shed. You can learn more about Briar Rose by looking at our website: BriarRoseCC.com
