Evolution Sculpted: Capitals of the First Goetheanum Building
January 22 2010 07:00 PM to January 24 2010 05:00 PM
Location: New York, NYIn this weekend workshop at Anthroposophy NYC with Jennifer Kleinfercher we will recreate in clay the seven capitals of the First Goetheanum columns.
The Theme of the Year of the General Anthroposophical Society for 2009-2010 centers on evolution, metamorphosis, development: themes central to Rudolf Steiner’s work and fundamental to anthroposophy. Whether in descriptions of human and world evolution, developmental processes from birth into adulthood, or simply built into the seven-fold process by which a thought is developed in a single text, the theme is ubiquitous in both content and form.
From an artistic point of view, the forms of the seven column capitals which Rudolf Steiner designed for the first Goetheanum building are perhaps the most concrete, succinct, visible expression of these living laws underlying evolutionary processes. The goal of this workshop will be to work together to create all seven at once, in a proportion of 1:4 to the original Goetheanum building, sculpting a process of evolution in time in a powerfully unified space.
The Friday evening talk may be attended separately; the workshop continues both Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm.
