Society News and Updates:

Call for Nominations:

The General Council of the Anthroposophical Society in America would like to identify Society members who would like to be considered to serve on the General Council.  While our by-laws state these members are to be appointed rather than elected, we invite suggestions from the members. If you have someone to recommend, please determine if the person has an interest in serving prior to submitting their name. Send a letter or email with the person's name, contact information, and a statement of why you believe this person will be a good council member. Responses from individual members only, please.

We ask that candidates be serious students of anthroposophy, active members of the School for Spiritual Science, and enjoy working in a collaborative way. Membership on the Council is a volunteer position. A Council term is a three-year commitment with the possibility of serving a second three-year term. The Council meets face-to-face three times a year and has monthly teleconference calls.

Please send recommendations for new council members by June 30, 2008 to:

Practices Leading to a Culture of the Heart

Rudolf Steiner's suggestions for practice often begin with a sensory observation or thought content; the practitioner should devote himself to these with the greatest attention and concentration. Then comes the task of accompanying what happens in this context with the corresponding feeling in order to change what is known into an experience — and doing this in a daily rhythm.

How can we accomplish this? How can I choose to create a situation where a corresponding feeling arises? Anyone who tries it soon notices that the feelings we are seeking are not so easily accessible, and they are particularly hard to bring up when we try to repeat them. A strong effort is needed (together with imagination) in order to discover something new in the familiar, something that can echo in our life of feeling.

Mani & Service
Robert Sardello, Editor
Classic Articles from the Journal for Anthroposophy
Spring 2008 / Number 78
Single Copies: $15.00 / 2-Issue Subscription: $25.00

This is the fourth special issue in the “Classics Series” of the Journal for Anthroposophy which have included articles from regular issues of the Journal for Anthroposophy published since 1965. Robert McDermott is the Series Editor.

This series of articles previously published in the Journal for Anthroposophy give a beginning picture of the spiritual stream of Mani that Rudolf Steiner held with such great respect. Besides entering into the Mani cosmology and practices, now long forgotten, but holding seeds for the future, the kind of inner capacities inspired by this stream that have to do with serving others, caring for the wounded soul, being able to help others while completely releasing the need for a sense of personal power in doing so, and working through the heart, are all presented here, together, for the first time.

The Traveling Speakers Program brings anthroposophical work to those who have carried study groups or smaller branches with quiet dedication for years without the benefit of a larger anthroposophical community to support their effort.
