The Anthroposophical Society is to be an association of

people whose will it is to nurture the life of the soul,

both in the individual and in human society,

on the basis of a true knowledge of the spiritual world.

Membership

There’s poetry in Rudolf Steiner‘s description about what results from our uniting with one another through membership in the General Anthroposophical Society:

It is for the restoration of truth in karma. This restoration of truth is not merely about the effect it has in our own lives, but is about bringing greater order and harmony into the world. And this can only be achieved by us while we're on the Earth.

But how can something as mundane as membership in The Anthroposophical Society have such an effect? Is it because membership dues support the furtherance of spiritual scientific research? Or that they ensure the on-going presence of The Society in the world?

While these things are what make membership dues essential, it’s actually the fact of membership that initiates this sublime ordering of karma. Through our mutual association and united action, a community of humanity is achieved that brings the reality of the spiritual world more fully into human awareness, nurturing the life of soul as it does so. It is this that restores truth in human karma. And in each case, this ordering takes root in the specific geography where this interest in one another is undertaken, to blossom into the worldwide community.

Membership dues further the effect of our mutual association, uniting us actively as we pursue our goals. Ours is to be mindful of the spirit beings, who, beholding our striving, bear grace toward us, like a force for restoring harmony in the world through human beings.

From membership to community, from community to festival life, from festival life to the cosmic ritual, our following together the path toward the good star of anthroposophy restores truth in karma, nurtures the soul life in the individual and in humanity, and creates the potential for a universal happiness to dissolve individual sorrows, as Goethe described it in his fairy tale ~ until there is nothing unbeautiful in all the world.

ALL COMMUNITY BUILDING EVENTUATES IN A HIGHER BEING DESCENDING FROM THE WORLD OF THE SPIRIT TO REIGN OVER AND UNITE PEOPLE WHO HAVE COME TOGETHER IN A COMMON CAUSE.
